Benjamin R. Skjold serves as general counsel to numerous small to mid-size privately held business entities, and has an active banking, financial services and securities practice.  His knowledge as a transactional attorney and trial lawyer provides the breadth of necessary experience to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.

His clients include investment companies, financial institutions, broker-dealers, and other financial professionals.  Further, he has a niche practice representing high net worth individuals in structuring business transactions, wealth protection strategies, and personal holding companies.

By combining the skills of a business attorney and litigator, he has implemented a team approach to his commercial practice. His private equity and transactional practice pools the resources of excellent business attorneys and commercial litigators to resolve the most delicate issues.  His team will help analyze the transaction from multiple perspectives and factor risks and rewards while quickly structuring innovative solutions to win and close the deal.

His industry background brings a sophisticated understanding of financial institutions and transactions.  Skjold obtained his Securities Licenses - Series 7 and Series 63 - and worked on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade prior to his admission to the bar.

Mr. Skjold is admitted to practice in Illinois, Minnesota, the United States District Court for Minnesota, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Federal Trial Bar for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits.

He is an active member in legal, financial and securities industry groups including the National Society of Compliance Professionals (NSCP), the Minnesota Bankers Association, and the Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations.  Mr. Skjold regularly speaks and blogs on topics ranging from banking and securities law to firm management and technology.  He also authors the blog Taking Stock with Ben Skjold for the WestLaw® News & Insight Securities Litigation website.

Mr. Skjold attended Macalester College, in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Departmental Distinction in Sociology.  He received his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology.
